During lockdown Liz posted a video (on Newquay Beach Care FB page) of litter at Watergate Bay that went viral. From the comments and photos we were sent, it seemed the whole of Newquay was in the same state! A ‘perfect storm’ during COVID restrictions with no loos open, reduced litter collections, no voluntary groups able to litter pick, and lovely sunny weather. All the litter was removed by the council the next day after such a public out cry. A week later we met Rob Nolan (Cornwall Council Portfolio Holder for the Environment) during a litter pick on Porth beach. He has promised us a meeting to discuss how to prevent this from happening again, particularly when lockdown is lifted on 4th July. Watch this space…….
